“The Short Thread Festival for 100 Second Films”
This will be on Thursday, January 18, 2024 at 10:00 am in the Resalat Theater - the Cultural Center of the Ghobeiry Municipality in the Library Hall. The ceremony, which was attended by a group of cultural elites, artistic and media figures, and specialists in the field of directing, visual and audio arts, was opened with a speech by the director of theses, engineer Muhammad Khafaja, who initially thanked the audience and considered that today we are in a time in which the necessities of speed, brevity, accuracy and intelligence have come together. In a time of the randomness of much digital content and the superficiality and danger of many productions, and in the age of rapid browsing of social media; The responsibility becomes greater and the intelligence of the idea becomes more important than ever. He added that in a time when reality is distorted and eyes lie in the face of the reality of the scene, how can we be secure about our issues and values while we witness an attempt to obscure and distort our reality before our eyes in the context of a media war complementary to a military war, and we also witness the destruction and attempt to cancel thousands of stories and anecdotes. Hence the Short Thread Festival for 100 Second Films, as each one of us has 100 seconds to say something, to tell a story, to support a position, to preserve a value or a cause. He announced that an honorary award had been allocated for each category of the festival for the best work on Palestine and what is happening in Gaza and Lebanon in terms of Zionist crime and global failure. Since the arts are among the most effective means of expressing issues, it is one of the most important duties to provide everything we can in this field for the sacrifices that are made in the arena of righteous war against the enemy.
Palestine remains the compass in all the activities we seek to provide at the artistic and cultural levels. Then an advertising video was shown about the festival, after which a detailed presentation was given about the idea and philosophy of the festival, its details, conditions for participation, jury committees, time limits, and method of participation. After that, the Dean of the Faculty of Media and Arts at Al-Maaref University, Dr. Ali Al-Taqsh, spoke in his capacity as one of the members of the festival’s jury. He invited more than 20 colleges in Lebanon that teach the profession of media and arts to be present at this festival.
